Christian Gullette Poet Swedish Translator.jpg

A poet and experienced Swedish-to-English translator of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, Christian Gullette received his Ph.D. in Scandinavian Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley where he will be a Lecturer in 2019 teaching a graduate seminar in translation. Currently the senior poetry editor for the Cortland Review, Christian's own poems have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as New England Review, Meridian, and Smartish Pace.

Glacier Buttercup (Ranunculus Glacialis)

Clings to lasting patches of snow
while winter rations its final
stipend.
If you are tender to them,
under the chin they reveal how easy it is to adore what
cannot nourish you.
