Christian Gullette

A poet and experienced Swedish-to-English translator, Christian Gullette received his Ph.D. in Scandinavian Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley where he is now a lecturer. Currently the editor-in-chief of the Cortland Review, Christian's own poems have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as the Kenyon Review, New England Review, Western Humanities Review, Meridian, and Smartish Pace. His manuscript Beehive State was a finalist for the 2019 Orison Books Poetry Prize.

This past May, Christian read his work at the first Unamuno Authors Series Festival in Madrid, Spain.

Glacier Buttercup (Ranunculus Glacialis)

Clings to lasting patches of snow
while winter rations its final
If you are tender to them,
under the chin they reveal how easy it is to adore what
cannot nourish you.
