A poet and translator, Christian Gullette is a finalist for the 2019 National Poetry Series. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as the Kenyon Review, New England Review, Pleiades, Western Humanities Review, Meridian, and Smartish Pace. Christian is the editor-in-chief of the Cortland Review. He is currently a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley.

Glacier Buttercup (Ranunculus Glacialis)

Clings to lasting patches of snow
while winter rations its final
stipend.
If you are tender to them,
under the chin they reveal how easy it is to adore what
cannot nourish you.
